Mobile services may be overshadowing other telecom services due to its vast and ever growing subscriber base as well as the future potential it holds. But there is one service which is performing reasonably well though ironically to an extent fails to gain the same attention as the cellular services.
The services in mention are internet services including broadband, dial-up and wireless mediums. Trai’s quarterly performance indicators for the June’ 08 quarter reflect that the services are not only performing well on the subscriber base growth front but also the ARPU registered for the services are northward bound. This is in stark contrast to the trend witnessed for mobile services wherein though the subscriber base growth is strong, the ARPUs are dwindling by the day.
Trai’s financial figures for ARPU registered for dial-up based internet services shows that the ARPU has grown 10.84 % from Rs 203 to Rs 225 as compared to June’ 07 figures.
Not only the ARPU, even the minutes of usage (MoU) recorded growth of 15.38 % on a yearly basis from 195 minutes to 225 minutes.
